Abstract
product (bereik positieve monsters 1989: 0,02 - 0,20 mug/kg ; bereik
positieve monsters 1994: 0,02 - 0,08 mug/kg).
gedaald.
Two series of samples of infantfoods prepared on the basis of milk (products) were investigated for the occurrence of aflatoxin M1. Forty-six samples were drawn in September 1989 and 34 samples were drawn during the period February-March 1994. A new HPLC method was applied which involved purification of extracts over Florisil and immunoaffinity cartridges. Samples of liquid infant foods were lyophilised prior to analysis. In approx. 85% of samples from 1989 and in approx. 53% of samples from 1994 aflatoxin M1 was detectable at mass fractions above 0.2 mug/kg, calculated on dry products (range positive samples: 0.02 - 0.20 mug/kg ; range positive samples 1994: 0.02 - 0.08 mug/kg). According to the Food Act (Regulation Infants Foods) the aflatoxin M1 content in infant foods may not exceed 0.05 mug/kg, calculated on the basis of milk. If account is taken of a concentration factor of 4-8 as a consequence of drying and if it is assumed that milk is the major component in infant foods, it is concluded that the investigated samples are in compliance with the legal requirements. Compared to the situation in the period 1977 - 1989 the mean as well as median aflatoxin M1 values have decreased in 1994.
