This is a report of the results of a survey among all municipal health services (MHS) in the Netherlands with regard to (i) the prevalence of indoor air complaints and (ii) the registration with the help of 'BIMI', an automated registration system. 'BIMI' has recently been introduced among all MHS with the assistance of the environmental physicians in the Netherlands. All respondents (77%) are handling indoor air complaints and all, with one exception, consider it their responsibility. An average MHS deals with a few dozen complaints each year. Circa 20% of the MHS spend more than half a day on this. The use of 'BIMI" is expected to increase from 27% to 50% (of all MHS) in the course of 1993. However, vast areas of Holland will not be included. Some strategies are recommended to optimize its use.
