Abstract
Testing against historical data is an important step for validating simulation models. Because of their wide scope and coverage, global change models require intensive amounts of data for testing. This report provides details for a hundred year data base that can be used to test global change models. It covers both general topics, such as population, land use, livestock, gross domestic product, and value added of industry and/or services, as well as specific data categories concerning energy/economy, atmosphere/ocean and the terrestrial environment. If possible, data are organized according to country and the period 1890 to 1990. Some data are also available with geographic detail, but these data are very preliminary.
