dc.description.abstractIn this report a description is given of the computer code METROPOL. This code simulates the three dimensional flow of groundwater with varying density and the simultaneous transport of contaminants in low concentration and is based on the finite element method. The basic equations for groundwater flow and transport are described as well as the mathematical techniques used to solve these equations. Preprocessing facilities for mesh generation and postprocessing facilities such as particle tracking are also discussed.<br>
