Title
Translated Title
Health risks of drinking water produced from surface water: a pilot study
Publiekssamenvatting
This report presents the results of a pilot study to calculate the health risks that can be expected from drinking water that has been produced from surface water. For some of these pollutions the entire emission-to-effect chains were calculated, so as to get a better view on the health risks expected. Chains were calculated for the pesticides atrazin and MCPA and for Cryptosporidium, a pathogenic micro-organism, using the models PROMISE (emission model) and WATNAT (distribution model). This worked well for the pesticides but not for Cryptosporidium where problems arose: Cryptosporidium remains difficult to detect and sources and emissions of Cryptosporidium are still hard to quantify. Among the conclusions made, was that a health risk for humans could be introduced by the presence of Cryptosporidium, but not of the pesticides.
