In this report a mathematical model for advective transport of pollutants in groundwater in the presence of colloids is presented. It is assumed that the concentration of colloids is constant and that no retardation of colloids occurs. Additionally, it is assumed that sorption of radionuclides and metals to both colloids and the solid phase follow the Freundlich isotherm. The mathematical model is analyzed using the mathematical theory of hyperbolic differential equations and an overview of all possible solutions is given. As an example, the transport velocity is calculated for the metals copper and americium in the presence and absence of colloids. On the basis of all possible solutions and the example calculations, it can be concluded that with this method the effect of colloids on the transport velocity of pollutants in an equilibrium system can be determined at least qualitatively. Important parameters are the number of binding sites available on colloids and the solid phase, and the preference of the binding to colloids and the solid phase. If sorption on colloids becomes relatively more preferent compared to sorption on the solid phase with decreasing pollutant concentration, the transport velocity of pollutants might increase dramatically.
