Title
Review of the proposed WHO Air Quality Guideline for Manganese
Translated Title
Beoordeling van de voorgestelde WHO Air Quality Guideline voor Mangaan
Publiekssamenvatting
At the request of the WHO European Centre for Environment and Health, Bilthoven Division a re-evaluation was done of the derivation of the air quality guideline for manganese as proposed in the WHO Working Paper that was adopted at the WHO meeting on Inorganic Air Pollutants, Dusseldorf, Germany, 24-27 October 1994. The present re-evaluation is a 'third opinion': the points raised in a review prepared by ICF Kaiser (USA) are addressed and weighed. The major point in the discussion was the question whether or not the result of the application of the Benchmark Dose method provides a better basis for guideline derivation than does a Lowest-Observed-Effect-Level (LOAEL) selected from the same occupational epidemiology study. To explore this issue additional calculations were made using the dose response data from the pivotal study.
