    Title
    Translated Title
The measurement of the amounts of precipitation in the Dutch National Precipitation Chemistry Network: rain gauge vs. rain sampler
    Publiekssamenvatting
This report describes the results of a short research about the differences between amounts of precipitation which have been measured with meteorologically approved precipitation gauges and with precipitation samplers in the Dutch precipitation chemistry network. An analysis of the measurement results from the period 1983-1988 shows: - the difference in the amount of precipitation as measured by two precipitation samplers is on the average 0 ; 90% of the differences is less than 200 g ; - the difference in the amount of precipitation as measured by a precipitation sampler and by a precipitation gauge is on the average 200 g, with the rain gauge showing the highest amount ; 90% of the differences lies between -27,5% and +7,5%. It is proposed to use the forementioned 90% ranges as operational validation criteria for the quality of the measurement of the amount precipitation in the precipitation chemistry network.
