Evaluation of the dioxin-emission of the Municipal Waste Incinerator in LeeuwardenPubliekssamenvatting
Abstract niet beschikbaarThe emission measurements at the municipal solid waste incinerator (MSW) in Leeuwarden show an average dioxin concentration of 101 ng TEQ/Nm3 (dry, 11% oxygen). The measured emission of chlorinated dioxins and furans from this installation has to be considered high for this type of installation. the yearly emission of these compounds is estimated to be 38g TEQ/year. According to dispersion model calculations this emission contributes considerably to the yearly mean deposition in the direct surroundings, viz. on average 19 ng TEQ(M2.year) on an area of 20 x 20 km2 and a mazimum of 78 ng TEQ(m2.year) at 2,500 m North-East of the installation. At this moment there is still a lack of knowledge about further behaviour, deposition, uptake and fate in the cow, which makes it possible to calculate the concentration in the milk of cows in the vicinity of MSW's or other point sources. Deposition near Leeuwarden is comparable with Zaandam, where increased levels in cow's milk have been found. Therefore dioxin levels in milk from cows in the vicinity of Leeuwarden should be considered.
