The eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull on 14 April 2010 did not lead to any risks to public health in the Netherlands. Although ash from the volcano was blown over the Netherlands by the prevailing winds, hardly any ash was deposited on the ground. This conclusion is based on the RIVM recommendations, made between 15 en 29 April 2010, which are bundled in this report. This report also provides a departure point for assessing a scenario in which a volcanic eruption does lead to the spread of volcanic ash in the Netherlands. The risk assessment was based on rainwater analysis and an assessment of the risks of inhaling volcanic ash and of the intake of elements from ash via the consumption of fruit or vegetables.
