    Title
Industriele grondwaterwinningen en de Kaderrichtlijn Water
    Translated Title
Industrial groundwater abstractions and the Water Framework Directive
    Publiekssamenvatting

The European Water Framework Directive (WFD) sets objectives for the protection of water resources for human consumption. These objectives are not restricted to the public drinking water supply but also pertain to all applications of water directly associated with human consumption. Examples are the (private) production of beer, soda and canned vegetables.
In this study, the RIVM compared the WFD objectives to those encompassed by current policies for groundwater protection and products in the Netherlands. Based on this analysis, the RIVM produced an overview of measures that need to be carried out by the various stake-holders (government ministries, provinces) in order to meet the WFD objectives. These include the need for provinces to assess potential quality threats to water supply abstractions so that measures can, if required, be implemented.
