    Title
    Translated Title
Dose resulting from single emissions of 226Ra, 210Pb and 210Po in the Nieuwe Waterweg; recalculation on the basis of new insights
    Publiekssamenvatting
Emissions of 1TBq/a of the radionuclides 226Ra, 210Pb and 210Po into the Nieuwe Waterweg from the phosphate-processing industries result in a potential maximum individual dose of 0.53 mSv/a. About 96% of this dose comes from exposure to 222Rn in dwellings and 4% from consumption of fishery products. The dose estimate is lower by a factor of 5 than the estimate made when the industries applied for their permit in 1992-1993. Changed insights into the dispersion and effects of the three nuclides and the amended government policy on the protection of the public against ionising radiation have formed the basis of the new calculations. Especially the changes in views on the transport of 222Rn in dwellings have led to a considerable change of the dose estimate.
