Inter-laboratory comparison of the determination of BTEX in ambient airPubliekssamenvatting
The Dutch and Flemish air quality monitoring networks closely collaborate and one of the subjects within this collaboration is research on the comparison of the different monitoring methods. In 2014 RIVM organized a laboratory comparison for five participating networks for the measurement of benzene and other aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX) with automatic continuous gas BTEX-analyzers. These compounds may arise at high concentrations in ambient air after industrial emissions. This study showed that the performances of three of the networks (three analyzers) may be classified as "good" or "satisfactory". The results may have been influenced partly by the type of monitors being used. The performances of the other networks (and/or monitoring equipment) are less, for a number of possible reasons.
