    Title
    Translated Title
Nitric acid digestion and ICP-MS analysis of biotic material and food
    Publiekssamenvatting
An analytical method consisting of a nitric acid digestion and an ICP-MS analysis, has been developed for the determination of elements in food and biological material. The digestion was optimised for nitric acid concentration and destruction time. The ICP-MS analysis was optimised for minimal spectral interferences and matrix effects using interference corrections, internal standards and matrix matching of the calibration standards. Based on detection limits, reproducibility, trueness and recovery, the analytical method was found suitable for the determination of As, B, Ba, Cd, Co, Cu, Mn, Mo, Pb, Rb, Sr, Zn in food and biological material. The method was also found suitable for the determination of Al, Fe, Cr, Co, Ni in food and animal material, but not for this determination in plant material: the digestion of Al, Fe, Cr, Co and Ni in plant material was not complete. The method was found not suitable for the determination of Bi, Br, S, Se and Sn. Trueness for Sb, Si, Ti, Tl and V could not be checked, because reference materials were lacking. The elements Ca, K, Mg, Na and P can be better determined using ICP-AES because of the high concentrations.
