    Title
The dose-response relation in human volunteers for gastro-intestinal pathogens
    Translated Title
    Publiekssamenvatting
Published data on infection of human hosts with various protozoa, bacteria, and viruses causing gastro-enteritis are used to establish a quantitative relationship between ingested dose and the risk of infection. For all data sets analysed, this relationship is determined by fitting either an exponential curve or a beta-poisson curve. These relationships can e.g. be applied to assess the risk of infection associated with drinking water or consumption of food contaminated with a low dose of an infectious pathogen.
