    Title
    Translated Title
Determination of the composition of sorted glass from community glasscontainers; Results 1994
    Publiekssamenvatting
This report presents the results of composition analyses of sorted glass from community glass containers. Analyses took place in early 1995 in the framework of activities defined in the Packaging Covenant, an agreement between the Dutch Government and the packaging industry to reduce the amount of packaging waste. The results will be used, for instance, to evaluate and examine the effects of the Covenant during the year 1994. Glass samples from 10 sites were analyzed for the amount of used packaging glass, colour composition and the presence of impurities (non-glass). Sorting analyses showed the average amount of glass packaging to be 97% of the total sample. Colourless glass is found in 45.3%, green glass in 43.3% and brown glass in 10.1% of the total sample. The presence of impurities, defined as non-glass, is quantified at 1.3% of the total sample. Separately collected used packaging glass was calcultated at 74% of the total amount of used packaging glass. Of this, 39% of the glass collected had been separated by colour.
