Het RIVM controleert achtmaal per jaar de metingen van de uit bedrijf genomen kernenergiecentrale Dodewaard. Het gaat hierbij om lozingen van radioactiviteit in ventilatielucht. De contra-expertise onderbouwt de betrouwbaarheid van de analyses die de kernenergiecentrale uitvoert. Doorgaans komen de analyses overeen, zo ook in de periode 2013. RIVM en de kernenergiecentrale vonden geen gamma-stralers in ventilatielucht.

De kernenergiecentrale is sinds 1997 buiten bedrijf en is in juli 2005 in de fase Veilige Insluiting overgegaan. Het voornemen is om de kernenergiecentrale over veertig jaar, als de radioactiviteit sterk is afgenomen, te ontmantelen. RIVM heeft in de periode 2013 acht monsters van ventilatielucht geanalyseerd op gamma activiteit, die verspreid over het jaar zijn genomen. Tevens is er in monsters van ventilatielucht de activiteit van 3H bepaald. Er is door RIVM geen gamma-activiteit, en slechts een zeer geringe 3H activiteit aangetroffen. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk zijn deze minieme 3H sporen afkomstig uit de poriën van het gebouw zelf. Er is geen afvalwater geloosd in de periode 2013.

Opdrachtgever is de Kernfysische Dienst van de Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport van het ministerie van Infrastructuur en Milieu.

RIVM measures eight times per year the release of radioactivity into the waste water and atmosphere of the nuclear power plant at Dodewaard. This form of counter-expertise is aimed at verifying and supporting the reliability of the analyses carried out by the Dodewaard plant. The waste water samples and samples of ventilation air are taken by Dodewaard at various time points dispersed throughout 2013. RIVM carries out this counter-expertise on behalf of the Department of Nuclear Safety, Security and Safeguards of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment.

The two different sets of measurements are mostly in agreement. There was no discharge of waste water in the period 2013. In eight ventilation air samples the measurements of both RIVM and the Dodewaard nuclear plant demonstrated the absence of gamma-emitters. In four samples of ventilation air only minute traces of 3H were determined. This 3H most likely originates from the pores of the building.

NPP Dodewaard was closed down in 1997, and since July 2005 it is considered to be in the phase of Safe Enclosure. The intention is to dismantle the plant after 40 years by which time the radioactivity will have decreased considerably.
